Criminal Intelligence Service Newfoundland and Labrador

About Us

Criminal Intelligence Service Newfoundland and Labrador (CISNL) was established in 1979 to unite the Newfoundland and Labrador criminal intelligence community at municipal, provincial and federal levels, to more effectively and efficiently combat organized and serious crime affecting Newfoundland and Labrador, and Canada.

CISNL Headquarters is located in the RCMP Headquarters facility, 100 East White Hills Road, St. John’s, NL. Over the last two years, CISNL has expanded to include satellite offices in Corner Brook, Gander, Happy Valley - Goose Bay and Labrador City, with District Intelligence Officers in each office acting as liaisons between their district and Headquarters.

CISNL is administered under the stewardship of both the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. The mandate of CISNL is to be a strategically-focused organization which ensures the timely production and exchange of criminal information and intelligence among CISNL and CISC member agencies, in support of the provincial effort to detect, reduce, disrupt and prevent organized and serious crime affecting Newfoundland and Labrador, and Canada.

Services

CISNL offers a variety of services to member agencies. Upon request, CISNL will provide analytical services to member agencies, in order to assist in their investigations.

CISNL is the Newfoundland and Labrador access point and administrator, of the on-line computer database known as the Automated Criminal Intelligence Information System (ACIIS), used to compile intelligence on organized crime groups across Canada. Member agencies contribute to ACIIS, but also avail of the vast amount of intelligence available.

CISNL hosts criminal intelligence courses to law enforcement personnel in various areas of organized crime and intelligence processing. CISNL also provides on-site intelligence training to member agencies upon request.
